Proteus

Proteus, with a golden yellow coat and a magic lamp hung over his brown funnel is a legendary narrow gauge engine. All the older engines seem to remember him and his story was narrated by Skarloey to the newer engines in the episode ''The Magic Lamp.'' Legend has it that any engine who chances upon the magic lamp will have his wishes come true! The signs to look out for are a sudden sweeping gust of wind, a creaking noise and a flickering light as one reaches near the magical lamp. While the engine Peter Sam, has actually ventured down the train track looking for it, none of the toy trains including Thomas the tank have found the lamp yet.
